Step Five: Chose your colours

This is it! It is time. You know what you stand for, what colours are and their meanings. You’ve done your research and now it is time to take the plunge. We suggest 3 – 5 colours that range from light to dark. By now you should have a pretty good idea of what you want to use, there are just a few things to think about in the final decision-making process.

Remember the colours are going to be used for all manner of marketing and branding. What do they mean to you? Write it all down. We have created a worksheet for this step. It brings everything together so that you can have everything at your fingertips and can have it ready for the next step of your branding journey.

Knowing all these things is what will help you make simple decisions when you are creating content for your website, social media and printed materials. Sometimes you are going to want to use a big bold colour to make a statement or use that bold colour as an accent on a white page as a subtle nod to who you are.

When you have decided on your colours you are going to want to look at these colours all together to make sure that they don’t clash. You can google complementary colours and it will give you some good images of what colours officially “go together”. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error but ultimately if you want someone to have a quick once over your new colours send us through an email with your worksheet filled in and we will let you know if there is anything glaringly obvious that needs to change.

If you have any questions for this step please send them through to our email [email protected]
